Dr. Wendel Ellis has been with Greeley County Health Services since 1993. He is Board Certified in Family Practice as well as a doctor of osteopathy certification.

Dr. Ellis is a past president of the Midwest Clinician's Network and a founding member of the Kansas Clinician's Network. He has also served as the President of the Joint Medical Executive Committee in addition to many community roles. Dr. Ellis is the current Medical Director for Wallace County and the Good Samaritan Prairie Manor Nursing Home. He is the Medical Director for the all volunteer Wallace County Emergency Medical Technicians and was instrumental in writing protocols for this group. Additionally, Dr. Ellis is a deputy district coroner for Wallace County as well.

He graduated from Greenville College in 1986 and then from the Southeastern College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990. Dr. Ellis completed an internship at Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla, Missouri in 1991 and a Family Practice Residency at Smoky Hill Family Practice in 1993 where he served as co chief resident.
Dr. Ellis currently serves as a volunteer assistant clinical professor for the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Wichita. He has received special awards and recognition from the National Health Service Corp with an Award for Excellence in 1995 as well as 100 percent Access recognition from the Kansas Association for the Medically Underserved. Dr. Ellis was also recognized with the Resident Teacher Award at Smoky Hill in 1992 and 1993. Dr. Ellis is a strong champion of the National Health Service Corps having served as a loan repayor for two terms. Following this involvement, he continues to remain active with the NHSC, speaking at conferences and advising new members. He even founded a separate foundation in support of the NHSC alumni called the Foundation for Health Care Access.

Largely through these efforts and because of the strong partnership with Dr. Robert Moser, Greeley County Health Services was chosen as one of only four communities across the nation to serve as a host for the NHSC's 25th anniversary celebration social reconnaissance and research site. This opportunity helped to lay the foundation for much of the program building and grants that have been received through the organization to date.

Dr. Ellis also includes memberships in the American Academy of Family Physicians, the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians, the American Osteopathic Association and the American Academy of Osteopathic Family Physicians. Dr. Ellis is currently a member of the Kansas Medical Society and the Southwest Kansas Medical Society.

Dr. Ellis' practice includes obstetrics with cesarean section delivery, traditional clinic based services as well as hospital-based services. Hospital services include emergency room care, inpatient, outpatient and skilled swing bed admissions in addition to esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy examinations. He places an emphasis on addressing access and disparity issues and has a special interest in technology and computer science.

Practice Philosophy: Dr. Wendel Ellis describes his practice philosophy best when he says, "I believe in personal integrity, responsibility for ones self and service to the community. I believe that every individual has value and deserves compassion and respect, regardless of their station in life."

Dr. Randall Fahrenholtz brings 29 years of primary care experience with a special interest in preventive medicine and substance abuse treatment. An experienced health care provider, Dr. Fahrenholtz brings an enthusiasm for rural healthcare and an appreciation for the rural lifestyle, having grown up on a central Kansas farm. He is board certified in Family Medicine, a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

Dr. Fahrenholtz graduated from Sterling College in 1972 and then attended University of Kansas medical school in Kansas City and Wichita, graduating in 1975. He completed his family practice training at Wesley Medical Center, Wichita.

Following 14 years of family practice including OB care and delivery, Dr. Fahrenholtz spent six years as medical director for the Via Christi Addiction Treatment Services. He was responsible for treatment plans, performed exams and created detox protocols for a full range of chemical addictions. He also completed a Master of Public Health degree from the University of Kansas in 1999. While completing his degree in public health, he was associated with an obesity specialist in KU-Wichita and actively worked with Class 3 obesity patients.

Dr. Fahrenholtz is a member of the Kansas and American Academy of Family Physicians Dr. Fahrenholtz is actively involved with the Greeley County community, currently co-chairing the Community Health Action Team, charged with improving conditions and the environment for healthy lifestyles in the area. In his personal time, he enjoys spending time with his family, playing the piano and performing with the community band.

In describing his practice philosophy, Dr. Fahrenholtz says, I believe in creating a strong doctor-patient relationship that results in a collaborative effort for improving healthcare for the patient.

Dr. Sheila Scheffe joined Greeley County Health Services in October of 2008. She is board certified in Family Medicine.

As a Western Kansas native, Dr. Scheffe has rejoined the area and the team of physicians at Greeley County Health Services in caring for the residents of Greeley, Wallace, and Hamilton Counties and surrounding areas. Her knowledge of the rural lifestyle and outstanding medical skills have been a great addition to the staff.

Dr. Scheffe attended Fort Hays State University and graduated summa cum laude with a dual degree in Biology and Chemistry. She then traveled to the University of Kansas to obtain a doctorate of medicine. Dr. Scheffe completed a Family Medicine Residency with Via Christi Family Medicine in Wichita where she was selected as an OB supervisor. She was named as an Outstanding Resident Physician in both her first and second years of residency, a rare honor for residents. Dr. Scheffe also received the Glen E. Hastings award as an Outstanding Clinician.

Dr. Scheffe is a member of the Kansas Academy of Family Physicians, the Kansas Medical Society and the American Academy of Family Physicians. Dr. Scheffe provides the full spectrum of family medicine caring for patients of all ages, obstetrical patients and their children. She performs deliveries and c-sections. Hospital services include emergency, in-patient care, out-patient and skilled swing bed admissions. Dr. Scheffe and her fellow physicians also provide care to the residents of the long term care facilities in Tribune and Syracuse.

Reading, movies, music, travel and sports are a few of Dr. Scheffe's personal interests. She enjoys the Western Kansas lifestyle and opportunities to be close to family and friends.

Practice Philosophy: In a respectful, compassionate, and caring manner, I want to empower patients to actively participate in the improvement of their health and in the decision making process regarding their healthcare.

Kathy Bangerter is a nurse practitioner with Greeley County Health Services. She has worked in nursing and primary care for the last seventeen years.

Kathy graduated from Fort Hays State University in 1995. She completed her training for her MSN, A.R.N.P. in clinical locations across Kansas. In addition to her busy family practice schedule, Kathy is also a devoted grandmother, school board member and volunteers for many community organizations.

Kathy Bangerter was recognized in the 2005-2006 edition of Who's Who in Medicine Journal. She has special interests in women's health and adolescent health issues. Kathy has participated in numerous women's health clinics and health fairs in our area.

Kathy describes her practice philosophy as follows: "I believe that treating patients with dignity, respect and empathy to the best of my ability and knowledge promotes a healthy environment to our clients."

Kim Dansel is a Certified Physician Assistant. Kim is a western Kansas native who grew up on a farming operation in Weskan, Kansas. She graduated from Kansas State University in Manhattan with a BS degree in Life Sciences. At K-State, she was the recipient of a KSU Leadership Scholarship.

Kim attended Wichita State University, graduating with a Masters of Physicians Assistant degree. She has been a presenter at the Wichita State University Research Symposium.

Kim is married to her college sweetheart, Jonathon Dansel, who coaches football and track at Goodland High School. She is an active member in the community, participating in church and youth service projects. Kim also has a special interest in preventative wellness, including healthy diet and exercise as well as chronic disease management. Kim’s understanding of our communities and passion for preventative health and overall wellness make her an excellent staff addition and a natural choice for patient care.

Eldonna Sylvia, ARNP, DNP is a member of the provider team at Greeley County Health Services. She is also an assistant clinical professor at the Department of Family Medicine and the School of Nursing at the University of Kansas Medical School.
Eldonna has a special interest in preventive medicine, wellness and chronic diseases such as diabetes and heart disease. She was recently certified as a SANE provider or a sexual assault nurse examiner who provides comprehensive care to victims of sexual assault.
